Elegant Exposures: A Fusion of Fashion and Fine Art Photography
Bringing Style and Storytelling Together
At Elegant Exposures, we merge the artistry of fashion styling with the precision of professional photography to create striking visual narratives. This project was a collaboration with stylist Sue Hardy, whose expertise in historical and contemporary fashion styling helped bring two dynamic looks to life in our latest studio shoot.
The Creative Team
Sue Hardy – Fashion Stylist
Sue Hardy’s extensive background in fashion, beauty, and performance art plays a key role in curating unique, visually engaging looks. With a career spanning luxury hairdressing, millinery, and theatrical costuming, Sue’s eye for detail ensures that every outfit tells a compelling story. Her ability to blend period fashion with modern influences results in rich, textured compositions that bring our photoshoots to life.
Bob Foyers – Photographer
As the photographer behind Elegant Exposures, my focus is on capturing the intricate details of styling, pose, and mood. Each session is designed to push creative boundaries, combining lighting techniques, fine art composition, and fashion storytelling to produce images that are both immersive and expressive.
The Models
Our recent studio shoot featured three talented models who brought elegance and character to the session:
- Morrigan – Showcased grace and poise in both styled looks.
- Crystal – Embodied the regal aesthetic in each setting.
- Adam – Delivered theatrical presence and expressive movement.
The Two Thematic Looks
Look 1: “Spices of India” – A Celebration of Cultural Elegance
This set was designed to reflect the rich textures and colours of South Asian fashion, incorporating intricate embroidery, flowing fabrics, and ornate accessories. Each outfit was carefully selected to enhance the regal and vibrant theme.
Outfits and Styling:
- Adam wore a black silk tunic and trousers, complemented by a black and red waistcoat. Accessories included black and red flip-flops and a striking red and blue jewelled earring.
- Morrigan was adorned in a beautiful Indian dress featuring gold, purple, blue, and orange tones, set with gold and silver jewelled stones. She completed the look with a gold shawl, silver sandals, gold bangles, and a statement Indian gold necklace with matching earrings.
- Crystal was styled in a vibrant purple and green Indian dress with silver and gold embellishments, accessorised with a green and gold-edged shawl, brown sandals, a purple bracelet, and multicoloured drop earrings.
Lighting and Backdrop:
- Warm, neutral-toned backgrounds to highlight the richness of the garments.
- Soft, diffused lighting to enhance fabric textures and embroidery details.
- A focus on graceful, poised poses that embody traditional elegance.
Look 2: “Louis XIV with a Twist!” – A Modern Take on Baroque Opulence
This look reimagined 18th-century European fashion through a contemporary lens. We introduced bold colours, statement accessories, and an expressive approach to posing to create images that blended historical and avant-garde aesthetics.
Outfits and Styling:
- Adam wore a lilac ruffled blouse paired with pale blue satin trousers, red winkle pickers, and a black bowler hat. Accessories included pearl necklaces and a drop pearl earring, blending 2025 fashion with Louis XIV grandeur.
- Morrigan was styled in a dramatic red and black Louis XIV-inspired dress, layered with net petticoats and bright orange stockings. She completed the ensemble with blue and white Irregular shoes, gold jewellery, a red fan, and a voluminous white wig adorned with jewellery and flowers.
- Crystal embraced the theatricality of the era with a regal purple and black Louis XIV-style dress, net petticoats, bright yellow stockings, and purple and white Irregular shoes. She accessorised with a yellow fan, a delicate purple and silver necklace, matching drop earrings, and a striking red wig embellished with flowers and diamanté pins.
Lighting and Backdrop:
- Rich, dramatic lighting to create depth and highlight fabric textures.
- A Baroque-style backdrop featuring deep reds, golds, and vintage drapery.
- Expressive, theatrical poses that brought a modern twist to historical aesthetics.
The Role of Styling in Visual Storytelling
Fashion styling is at the core of narrative photography. Sue’s meticulous approach to colour coordination, accessories, and textures ensured that each look was cohesive and immersive. Styling choices, from fabric selection to jewellery placement, contributed significantly to the overall impact of each image.
