Elegant Fashion Photography in Aldeburgh
Elegant Exposures Fashion Shoot in Aldeburgh
The Elegant Exposures team took a day in Aldeburgh for this one. Stylist Sue Hardy planned four outfits, model Sophia wore them across the town, and I photographed them using the natural light and textures Aldeburgh gives you for free. The looks ran from vintage-inspired gowns to something far more casual, each matched to a different corner of the town.

The Collaboration
Sue styled the outfits and also handled the hair, makeup and jewellery. Sophia moved between the looks without missing a beat, from a relaxed boho outfit to a full vintage ballgown, and that range is what made the day work.
Working Around the Town
Aldeburgh packs a lot into a small area: the beach, the Scallop, old stonework and the steps up to the High Street. Each location gave a different contrast to the outfits, and we barely had to move the kit between setups.
1. Outfit One: Black & Pink Satin Ballgown
The first look was a black and pink satin ballgown with a pink net petticoat, shot along the path and stairs leading to the High Street. The old stonework suited the vintage styling, and the soft light picked up the sheen of the satin, making this black and pink vintage gown photoshoot one of the most striking looks of the day.
2. Outfit Two: Boho & Blyth
The second look swapped the formality of the ballgown for something casual and boho: tan cotton jeans, a leopard print blouse, a wool tank top and a silky leopard print bomber jacket. We shot it at two locations, the Ballroom Art Gallery and the beach. The natural light on the beach and the softer light in the gallery both suited the warm, earthy tones of the outfit.
3. Outfit Three: Satin Blouse and Tulle Skirt with Leather Jacket
The third look was a satin purple blouse, a lilac tulle skirt and a black leather jacket, soft fabrics against something tougher. We shot it on the beach, where the wind did half the styling for us and set the mood for this modern vintage fashion photography session.
4. Outfit Four: Grey Taffeta Ballgown
The final look was a grey taffeta ballgown, provided by Portabello East in Halesworth. We shot it at the Scallop sculpture on Aldeburgh Beach. The structured steel of the sculpture against the flowing taffeta was the strongest contrast of the day. The Scallop is a tribute to composer Benjamin Britten and one of Aldeburgh’s best-known landmarks, so it earned its place in the set.
Why Location Matters in Fashion Photography
A good location does some of the work for you, and Aldeburgh was ideal for the Elegant Exposures shoot. I try to choose places that complement the outfits rather than compete with them, and every spot here added something: the beach for drama, the stonework for the vintage looks, the gallery for the softer set.
The Team Behind Elegant Exposures
Sue Hardy’s attention to detail in styling and accessories carried each outfit, and Sophia made every setup look easy, which it was not. Days like this are why the project exists.
Wrapping Up
The Elegant Exposures day in Aldeburgh gave us four distinct looks and a set of images we are proud of, from the grandeur of the ballgowns to the ease of the boho outfit.
